For years I was in a dead role working hard at trying to level up, taking on special projects and entrepreneurial activities after work. Taking the leap into tech and entrepreneurship was scary but necessary and I couldn’t have made it without having a strategy in place to hold myself accountable. Currently, I have the privilege of teaching part-time UX Design and paper prototyping at General Assembly while bootstrapping my company, Roofheads, an app that helps humans save time and money navigating the real estate space.

Many of my students are career changers seeking advice on how to make the switch into tech. Tech bootcamps can be the answer if you don’t have time or resources to go back to school full time. But every decision has pros and cons when it comes to changing careers. Planning is necessary and an evaluation of your circumstances to understand if the next move is right for you. If learning a new tech skill is part of your transition strategy into the tech space, here’s just one way you can hack a bootcamp program(10 weeks or longer) to get the most out of it and increase your opportunities of landing of job.

I followed this strategy and was successful in finding work and expanding my network and I hope it helps someone out there who needs practical advice on taking the leap. Note: In a nutshell, this strategy is basically about how much effort you’re willing to put into the learning and work.
